This new movie, Cruisin' Atlantic Ave., is similar to Waves of Reflection, Will Lucas’ / Surf 64 Productions’ first release, and picks up where The Eastern Surfer surf shop left off. While primarily targeted to people who were surfing in the 60’s and 70’s, anyone really interested in surfing will benefit from this presentation. The movie covers numerous topics including a sequence outlining some of the earliest shops and rentals concessions; many of which no one has ever heard of. The interviews and photos shared by early shop owners and surfers Bill Helmuth, Bryant Hungerford, Blair Rhodes and Spyder Wright cover so much information, that everybody will learn something new. Even the very early Spyder and Welsh Drug teams are covered. This new movie also includes interviews with East Coast Surfing Legends Claude Codgen from Cocoa Beach, Florida and Pete Pan from Narragansett, Rhode Island. They were both generous enough to share old photos and classic home movies that go back to the 60's. Many people from other areas of the Coast also donated valuable material. The vintage films and interviews clearly demonstrate the transition of surfing styles as well as the evolution of board design. The movie wraps up with a small travelogue going north and south from Ocean City, Maryland and includes old and new photos as well as video, including an epic day at Cape Hatteras. Keeping true to Will's own surfing heritage, everything ties back to Maryland and Delaware surfing. Additionally, there is a sub menu with three mini-movies; one entitled The State of the Beach, which includes Kathy Phillips and Shelly Dawson joining the others as they discuss their concerns about the need for additional surfing areas in Ocean City. Everything in this movie is presented in a fun, informative, entertaining, and positive manner. There is also a wide variety of music that flows nicely with the story. The movie will be available in local surf shops as well as on line. |
