Surf 64 Productions, Ltd. was created by Will Lucas in the mid 90’s in an effort to preserve a small portion of our East Coast USA surfing heritage.  This Washington D.C. native started surfing in 1964, and has never forgotten his Ocean City, MD roots.

Will Lucas seemed like an unlikely surfer:  born in Washington D.C. and raised in the suburbs, he lived three hours from the ocean for most of his life.  He started surfing in 1964, but as the Vietnam Conflict escalated, Will’ s  presence was requested by the U.S. Army.  While most of his friends were enjoying summers at the beach, and improving their surfing, Will spent 1966 and 1967 in olive drab.  In spite of the disruption , Will did convince the Army powers to be to give him a week’s R & R in Hawaii in 1967.  He visited the Islands for several months in 1968, and then returned stateside later that year and was married.  Ten years later he fathered two beautiful daughters.

Although he worked in D.C. for over thirty years, and attended college at night, surfing remained a priority.  Vacations and business travel took him to many of the planet’s best surf breaks. After 30 plus years as a successful businessman, in 1998 he quit his job, moved to Ocean City, MD and stepped up his passion for the sport of surfing.   A few years later, cold water proved too much for a guy in his mid-50’s so he packed up all his belongings and moved to Melbourne Beach Fl.

Will traded in his necktie and dress suits for more comfortable attire, and when not surfing, can usually find him with an eye fixed in the viewfinder of his video camera.  Will’s experience in marketing, has now spilled over into his life long passion for surfing, and preserving some of our wonderful heritage.  As a result of his efforts to document early surfing, the Ocean City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, in 2005, inducted Will Lucas to their Legend group.
